Synopsis

Album Description
Russel Walder is a man of many passions ? musician, actor, director, painter, writer -- and he pushes the boundaries in everything he does. The oboe is little known outside of classical music and rarely played to its full potential and yet Walder has toured the world as a soloist, and his discography includes a composition on the Grammy nominated, double platinum album Winter Solstice. He has recorded three albums with pianist Ira Stein and guested with prominent new age artists Will Ackerman and Suzanne Cianni. On Pure Joy, Walder?s debut album with Real Music, he has composed music featuring the oboe that is passionate and expansive, soulful, yearning, intimate, and filled with radiant joy. Pure Joy may well be the world?s first pop album for oboe.

CD Reviews

An Appropriate Title For An Enjoyable CD
Timothy Kearney | Hull, MA United States | 04/19/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I purchased Russell Wader's PURE JOY out of curiosity. I listen to so called "new age" music somewhat frequently when I am working at my desk and need background music or when I am driving. Sometimes I use it when I do a slide presentation, but again, it is more to set a mood. All too often I find it all sounds the same. Yet after I listened to PURE JOY, I found myself listening again and again to specific tracks. The music is simple and captivating. Since the major instrument of the recording is an oboe, it makes the collection unique. Perhaps after listening you will not be moved to jump for joy as the man on the cover seems to be doing, but listening to the recording is bound to be pleasurable."

"WOW! I have been listening to this album all morning at home and felt that I had to leave a review where I bought it. Hardly ever does an album strike an emotional response in me, but Walder's has...best CD I have purchased in years....thank you!"
