CD Reviews

It's About Time! Bring on Vol 2
John Little | Independence, ky USA | 01/10/2008

"I just received this great set. It's about time someone made an effort to present an organized presentation of Roy Acuff's work. This is great. This set is the first 100 recordings made by Mr. Acuff. Many of these were never reissued beyond their initial release back in the 1930's.

As far as sound quality, it is generally good. The source recording are the 78 rpm disks. Some of the cuts have a small amount of surface noise but considering the rarity of the recordings it is still worth having. I wish someone would issue a box set from the original masters but until then this is most welcome. It's a real bargain for what you get, 4 cds and liner notes with discography information, but no separate booklet or literature. According to the liner notes a second volume is in the works. Thanks to everyone who worked on this project.

About Time! Now let's hear Vol. 2.

"I'm glad I bought this, I recieved it at Christmas, and I have played the set over, and over. I may end up having to get another, due to how great this set is. I recommend this to any Roy Acuff fan, it's a must have for all. Now I hope that Vol. 2, which is being crafted now, is realeased between late 2009-early 2010. But until then I'll enjoy this.

My only complaint is that some of the early songs on the first two discs are a bit scratchy, and Pins and Needles, a 1943 hit, is omitted. Other than that, this is the best Acuff box yet.

"This ia a great collection. Some of the oldest songs do not sound that great because of the equiptment that was used at that time but I liked them just the same because I listened to them back then. All of the newer ones sound great. A really good "memories" colection.
