Richie's On a Roll

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Richie Furay needs no introduction to country rock fans. Suffice to say he gets some credit for inventing the genre, having started Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills and then continuing on with Poco for several years. I believe he's also one of only two pastors who are also members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This double cd set is just a guilty pleasure for longtime fans, and a very entertaining history lesson for younger ones. He includes some of his recent solo work along with several Buffalo tunes from their first lp released in '66, I believe, and then continues through Poco and even some stuff from the short lived Souther, Hillman & Furay band. Kudo's also to guitarist Scott Sellen for managing to duplicate some of Jim Messina and Rusty Young's signature licks from the Poco days without losing track of the melodies. You can feel the era of the older B.S. tunes while the Poco stuff still crackles with energy. My only disappointment is that he only included one song from his recent worship album "I Am Sure," which I regulary spin during breaks at my church. But the best thing about this set is his fantastic singing. He hasn't lost anything except maybe the very top end of his range, and that's barely noticeable. To me, Richie is the "voice" of county rock, and listening to him sing is an unrivaled pleasure. Enjoy the ride."

"Finally....a jammed pack live anthology of Richie's finest works, collected on two cd's..plus 3 great tunes from his last three studio albums "The Heartbeat Of Love" "I Am Sure" and "In My Father's House/ The Deluxe Edition."

Great renditions of his finest works are all here from Poco, Buffalo Springfield, SHF, plus his solo works too. Stand-outs include "Go and Say Goodbye" "A Good Feelin' To Know" and the masterful Neil Young "Medley #1"

"What a thrill to hear Mr. Furay belting out the Neil Young penned tunes from the first Buffal Springfield recording. In addition, he covers many of the old Poco favorites with the utmost excellence. It is indeed a "Good Feeling To Know" that the most gifted lead singer from the Springfield is back with a carrer spaning double disc recording."
