Gone with the Wind

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Rhett Forresters solo debut after leaving as frontman of Riot...
This is a rarity and an oddity, I won't lie. Its simply an obscure release that was never properly promoted in 1984, and was re-released in 2001. ( It was recoded in France, thats a good reason for its lack of promotion.)If you were ever a fan of TKO, Icon, Kix, Dirty Looks, this is for you. An exceptional release of 80's metal. Full of anthem lyrics, excellent guitar, and some of the first use of drum machines that I have ever heard. Although the drum machine use is hard to detect and shouldn't deter you from a purchase. This downright dirty, fun, metal.Guitars are by Paul Kanyen, who handles rythum and lead easily, flawlessly blending the solo into the rythum parts. Bass is by Gary Bordonoro. Drums are by Carl Canedy. But the standout part of this release is Rhett Forrester on vocals, slightly harsh, flirtatious, deep, and hitting the high notes with a typical 80's growl.Song Highlights... "Assume the Position", its about, you guessed it, Sex! This is the best song off this release, typically dirty, "you can beg and plead, buy my sympathy, I'll put you in
my care....ASSUME THE POSITION!" ( repeat the chorus, and I swear, you will never forget this song). Another good song is "Cranky Boy", its all about Rhett here, and his attitude. This song has lots of those high note "OW'S", and grunting growls. Excellent guitar, with several solo's in this one. Another good one is "Boys wanna Fight". However my second favorite is "Movin' in for the Kill", this is another one that you won't forget, nearly perfect. Again, several solo's in it, very catchy chorus, growls, and very powerful drums.
Typical of the times, it has one ballad, "The last thing I do".
Lost love, trying to win them back, and aching for your lover...typical stuff, but with a difference. Outstanding guitar that you cannot decide if its lead or rythym, and the chorus that stays with you for hours. "If its the last thing I do, I'm gonna be with you."My only complaint is that its only nine songs, and weighing in 39 minutes and 3 seconds. I only complain because I want more! I have played it nearly continually since I got it. If you love eighties metal, this is something for your collection. Its so solid from start to finish, that I sincerely doubt that you'd regret purchasing this one. Simply an undiscovered gem.
RIP Rhett Forrester 1957-1994."ASSUME THE POSITION!""
