CD Reviews

One Fine Piece Of Work
Timothy T. Taylor | Salem, Oregon USA | 03/20/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is a real piece of Artistry. The more I listen to it the more aware I become of the talents of the artists and the recording technicians and mixing abilities (my hats off to the producers). The Artists are Top-Flight. Randy Porter's strong chording on left hand and innovations on the right hand as he makes the piano sing are most excellent. The Bass player is the late Leroy Vinegar. The recording really picked him up well. He is a delight to hear "walkin' that dog". Mel Brown on drums is an expert on enhancing the music, no matter who he plays behind. Then comes Nancy King with her tremendous voice range. The technicians mixed this so well, you can hear each instrument together. No one covers up the other. No straining to hear a particular part of the song. A truly stupendous work of art. Thanks to them for a great album."

"Randy Porter is a great pianist. What makes this album even more special is that there are vocals by Nancy King, a northwest based Jazz Singer, whose music is very hard to come by. This is the best of two worlds. You will enjoy the trio and the stylings of Randy Porter and the haunting contralto voice and styling of Nancy King. You must have this for your collection."
