Randy Rocks Dallas!
11/04/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I have been a lifelong fan of the Eagles and have all of their cd's as well as most of all of their solo efforts. For some reason, I am drawn to Randy Meisner's work with the Eagles. His vocal work with them was superb as was his muscianship. I have all of his solo works prior to this release, and I can say that this collection of music is, on the whole, a treat. First of all, the recording is excellent and Randy's backing band is first-rate with all of the guitar solos and vocal backings staying true to the original recordings. Randy's vocals waiver just a tinge on the more rocking songs, but for the most part he could still hit all the high notes. By far, the biggest treat on the CD is the version of "Try and Love Again." It sounds better than with the Eagles. Unbelievable. Some songs that won't be as familiar to everyone such as "Gotta Get Away", "I Need You Bad", "Darkness of the Heart" and "Jealousy" are first rate. While "I Need You Bad" is a straight ahead ballad, "Gotta Get Away" will remind you of any good Eagles song for the tempo and harmonies. "Darkness" and "Jealousy" are bigger rockers from his last solo CD, and they are strong songs with excellent guitar work. Of course, "Hearts on Fire" was his biggest solo hit, and he delivers a rambunctous version here that is great. "Lonesome Cowgirl" is definitely a tip of the hat to the crowd in Dallas, and the band shines here. Really, "Tonight" is the only dated song on here, but it is performed well. The climax of the CD is "Take it to the Limit." This song is timeless and Randy excels here. The only reason this CD is a four star is that the alternate mix of "Limit" sounds nearly identical to the first version. I guess it's the idea of you can never get enough of the song. Well, I guess that's true. This CD is a must-have if you've ever been a fan of Randy Meisner or the Eagles. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to it."
