"Although I'm an east-coaster and know little about the Seattle underground music scene, I also know that Raft of Dead Monkeys is the best thing that's happened to music since the death of motown. Bizarre rhythms, unpredictable melodies, and scattered shards of post-punk/emo brilliance have kept this disc in my CD player for weeks. The lyrics range from cryptic ("nine hundred thousand won't cure your disease"), to hysterically blunt ("you're not the only whore in town, just the best ____ around"). The album itself is very artistic, as a whole. The creepy insert pictures, the vast expanse of echoing instrumental sections, and the consistent nods to rock and roll create one giant pendulum of eerie satisfaction, swinging back and forth from anticipation to paranoia. Jeff Suffering is an inherent genious, regardless of which band he decides to form, and this product of RODM is no exception. He is either beating rock and roll to death with a baseball bat, or he's keeping its spirit alive with an IV tube in each arm. In either case, Thoroughlev is the most impressive offering yet from a band that can't be stopped."
