Synopsis

Product Description
Since his first release for Canyon Records in 1983, Native American flutist R.Carlos Nakai has used the traditional Native American flute in exciting new musical settings creating a new genre with widespread popularity. In this album, Nakai continues this musical experiment by joining the haunting sound of the cedar flute with sax, guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. This new sound is a confluence of traditional Native American sounds, Latin rhythms and ethnic jazz. Features Nakai on Native American flute, Amo Chip Dabney on sax, keyboards and bass, Will Clipman on drums and percussion and J.David Muniz on guitar, bass and keyboards.

Something new, Really
05/13/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I had been mildly familiar with Nakai's work in traditional and in semi-classical formats before this, and then I received Kokopelli's Cafe as a gift. This is a fusion of Native American and jazz composition, like I have never heard before. And it works."

"R. Carlos Nakai is one of my favorites and he has really put together a awsome cd with Kokopelli's Cafe! What a sound! Native American flute mixed with a jazz group and it doesn't get much better than this!"
