Likely Lads :o)

(5 out of 5 stars)

"There is a scene in the Likely Lads movie (English, 70's sit-com) where Terry and Bob have gone to find Terry's old house, the house where he was born, only to find it and the rest of the estate is in the process of demolition. The scene pans from the dereliction in the fore ground out over endless rows of terraced homogeny.

It seethes with depression, despair, loss and decay but there is a strength and dignity in the rows that still stand; nameless and faceless yet ripe with the history of ordinary lives, lived and died. Pleasures and joys, spirit and passion; the minutiae of the everyday that makes everyone of us feel special in some way.

Puressence are the soundtrack to that scene. There is depression and decay but wrapped in a soaring majesty; shoe-gazing with style. Where the minutia of the everyday becomes a thunderous soundtrack, the heart that beats in all of us translated musically into emotive perfection.

Three albums into their career with not one single bad track to their name, any words fall short of doing this band justice.

It's nice to have your own secret favourites but it is far more galling to see mediocrity like Coldplay (ho hum), Athlete (hmmm...), Travis (the less said...) etc stealing the limelight.

Buy this album now. Buy all of them. Send them money!"

"I came across Puressence by accident and have been thankful for that day ever since! Hailing from North England, this band follows the tradition of the great British bands before them! This record was their first that I had a chance to listen to and have since got the rest of their material. This is by far their best record and will spend many days in your cd player. Passionate songwriting, powerful hooks, amazing climaxes and wonderful production make this a must have for any music connoiueseur!"
