CD Reviews

Helps you hear Massive Attack from a new perspective
Steward Willons | Illinois | 01/08/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What an awesome idea: an excellent band who built trip hop classics on top of choice samples and loops puts out a sort of compilation album of some of their best sources! When you consider that DJing (the real thing with two turntables, mixing records, etc.) has been around since the 70s, it's kind of surprising that nobody has done this before. I knew a fair number of these tracks already, but some were totally new to me; I'm guessing most listeners are in the same boat.

As good as these tracks are, the coolest part of the album is how it helps you hear some of your Massive Attack favorites in a new light. It really changes how you hear the song to understand the loop in its context. It also gives the listener a rare peak into the creative process of the artists - what part of these songs caught their attention, how did they implement them in the tracks?

If you're a serious Massive Attack fan, you should pick this up. It will definitely give you plenty to consider."
