Diamond in the rough/Melodic thrash metal band at peak.

"The very first time i heard Powermad was when i sent away for a free copy of "the Madness Begins",and felt like i had just won the best prize of my life.I listened to the tape over and over and NEVER got bored with this finely tuned unit, and told all my friends about it,and even passed the tape around to them so that they would believe it for themselves.Success.I followed the band pretty well, and recall that they did not get alot of coverage and couldn't figure out why. When the recording of "Absolute Power" came out,i remember listening to it the first time, and chills ran up my spine, and goosebumps popped up,and the hair on the back of my neck tingled-this cd WAS AMAZING!!!!!!To this day this CD still stands out in my head, and i can hear the songs clearly. Not only does the CD shred,it is also emotive and quite literally could bring tears to your eyes with its sheer musicianship, and killer vocals. It's really inconcievable that this band did not take the fire from this effort, and carry the torch on with another release.Words cannot describe this gem lost in the fields commercialism. Please do yourself a favor, and discover "Absolute Power" in your life, buy purchasing this disc-you will not regret it!"
Excellent, but rare US speed/power metal

"Powermad has remained somewhat of an enigma since the release of this album, which contains some of the best melodic speed metal you'll ever hear. As you need comparisons (as always) to paint yourselves at least somewhat of a picture of what the band sounds like, I would say Annihilator's debut comes pretty close. Relentless quality riffing to which no mortal could keep their head from banging violently. The musicianship and singingis also at least at par with the referenced incarnation of Annihilator (also my favorite in their history, by the way). Small differences exist in the clearer singing of Joel DuBay and (certainly in comparison to Toxik, also in this realm of metal) better production. The album shifts to a somewhat lower gear on Nice Dreams and Plastic Town, but no song is a misfit on this excellent piece of work. The mystery lies in why this band never released anything new after this opus. Although several sources reported that the band was made up of session musicians and got together more or less by accident, an interview in Trade Mafia #5 of 1989 would lead one to believe that they were in it for the long haul. Exposure in two movies ("Wild at Heart" by David Lynch being most notable) almost seemed to guarantee their future. Maybe one day we'll find out what happened, but I'm more than happy in the meantime, to have my copy of this rare gem."
