CD Reviews

Definitely worth owning!

"My boyfriend turned me on to these guys, and "American Music" hasn't left my CD player since! The tunes are catchy, the lyrics are witty and great to sing along with, and the music makes you want to listen again and again. Plus, to paraphrase what Virginia Woolf said about George Eliot's "Middlemarch," this is one of the only recent American popular music albums actually written for grown-ups. The first 3 tunes are about love and relationships gone awry--a familiar musical theme, but all 3 songs have fresh and interesting slants in which the music and lyrics are really well suited for each other. Guaranteed to make you smile. My favorite song, "Carry", is a slower tune with a a beautiful, uplifting melody. It deals with issues of self-identity and being able to look at the big picture of one's life when the present seems rough. My favorite lines go: "Where I stand is all I see / The future and the past are mine to keep / Sometimes they're all I have." I definitely recommend you buy this album!"
