Synopsis

Album Description
The Pittsburgh Symphony Brass, led by Grammy Award winner George Vosburgh, possesses a unique blend of virtuosity with brilliant sonority rarely achieved in brass music. With renowned Chicago producer Arnie Roth at the helm, A Christmas Concert was recorded in the East Liberty Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh in July, 2000. In December of that year, "it took over the town" to quote one of the members of the sales staff at the Pittsburgh Symphony gift store Curtain Call, which sold over 1,800 units at its one location. With concert performances, TV. appearances, press coverage, in-store appearances, and saturated airplay from legendary radio station WQED, this ensemble of world class musicians has gained a very large following. Twenty-nine carols and traditional holiday songs evoke the splendid joys of the season, and will warm the hearts of all who listen. The Pittsburgh Symphony Brass gives a performance to remember that people around the country will soon discover.

CD Reviews

Supurb Christmas playing
09/10/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This group put a show on last winter at a local church in Pittsburgh, and I have to say that it is one of the best sounding brass groups I have listened to. I agree, some of the songs are short, but the quality and talent that goes into the pieces is excellent. I would also recommend Empire Brass Quartet and some of their recordings if you like what you hear on this CD."
Beautiful Sounds

"Superb playing from the brass section of one of our finest orchestras. Yes, the tracks are short, but there are 29 of them!"
THE Christmas Brass album to own!

"If you intend to only have one Christmas Brass album, make sure this is it! Virtuouso playing, clever arrangements (The Twelve Days of Christmas especially)and wonderful acoustics.

Two thumbs up!!"
