Synopsis

Album Description
Quiet Games for Hot Weather is the debut release of the San Francisco quartet PINQ. The album is comprised of eight tracks of blissfully emotional energy that ranges in dyamics from hushed falsetto's and piano loops to all out yet melodic walls of noise. One can hear the emo and post-rock influences that drive the core of these songs, yet they are hard to nail down to such a narrow classification.

CD Reviews

One of my favorites

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this CD out of a used bin (sorry guys) and it has become one of my favorites. A desert island disc. Each song is expertly crafted and recorded. It might be a little proggy for some but even the long songs stand up to repeated listening. I always seem to find something new every time I pop it in. If you dig this album, check out The Decoration. It's the same guys. I guess there were some legal issues with the name Pinq. RIYL: Duke-era Genesis, Mogwai, Pinback, rad music."
Overall...a solid listen

"First, a couple of problems...The name Pinq is awful for starters. This is not an opinion, it's a fact. Second, whoever decided to put "Careful Not to mention the Obvious" as the opening track, or why it's even on the record is beyond me. Also, the CD cover art is some of the worst I have ever seen...ever.
Other than that this is an intoxicating debut from this San Francisco foursome. "Some Somewhere Now" is one of the strongest songs which starts of as a simple picking pattern which turns into a simpler 2 chord progression led by Tim Mitchell's ever catchy melodies and backed by a solid rhythm section. Obvious comparisons will be made to Mogwai, especially on the last track, "Christmas With The Matador". Hell, the name even suggests that. Built to Spill is also an influence and can be heard simply because of it's epic guitar sound which is not a bad thing in my book. This band is headed for big things and I can't wait for a follow up to "Quiet Games For Hot Weather"."
