CD ReviewsThoughtful & melodic ECM sound with an all-star group 06/18/1998 (5 out of 5 stars) "Pierre Favre has long been at the forefront of European jazz and improvisational music. This release documents his vision of a "chamber" group sound with the 2-horns, 2-strings, percussion line up. Often reminiscent of ECM's "Nordic" sound (Jan Garbarek, Jon Balke, et. al.), drummer Favre is featured as a composer on these poetic tracks. Even when his drumming is at the forefront, this never seems like a drummer's recording. The idea of rhythm, lead, and soloist is shared by all five musicians as the music weaves itself around the compositions. The sax (Roberto Ottaviano), trumpet (Kenny Wheeler), cello (David Darling), electric bass (Steve Swallow), percussion(Pierre Favre) line up creates a sound as unique as it's drummer/leader. The 60 year old Swiss master drummer is at the top of his game here."
