Synopsis

Album Description
"TV Favorites" was Perry Como's first RCA Victor 10" format long-play album, recorded and originally released in March of 1952, and is featured here in combination with another early LP, "Supper Club Favorites", released shortly following. These early LPs contained only songs, in place of twelve, so this nostalgic collection contains a bonus of eight additional songs from Perry's first 12" format album "SO SMOOTH" which was recorded and released in 1955. With many of the songs from "Supper Club Favorites" dating back to the mid 1940s, this compilation is a nostalgic view of Perry's first real decade with the RCA Victor Records label for those who remember it. Perry's early radio and television shows were sponsored by Chesterfield cigarettes and broadcast three-times a week on the popular "Chesterfield Supper Club".

"TV Favorites by Perry Como is actually all the tracks to more than one Perry Como album just as Amazon correctly notes above. This Perry Como album features Perry at his very best during the earlier years of his career; and that's wonderful. The sound quality is really rather good considering the age of these recordings; and the artwork is very nicely done.

"You'll Never Walk Alone" has Perry crooning beautifully and the lush musical arrangement is beautiful although they cleverly never drown Perry out--his vocals are squarely front and center. "You'll Never Walk Alone" is a very strong number to starts this album. "If There Is Someone Lovelier Than You" features some great singing by the immortal Perry Como; he performs this with panache and I really like "If There Is Someone Lovelier Than You." In addition, Perry also does a great job on "While We're Young;" I first heard this song on a Judy Garland record album and Perry does this so sensitively that Judy would certainly have been proud!

"I Concentrate On You" places Perry right in the spotlight-which is precisely where this man belongs! Perry's uncanny sense of timing makes his performance even better. Perry boldly tackles "Over The Rainbow," Judy Garland's signature song--and he succeeds very well. Perry never sings a superfluous note and his tempo changes allow him to put his own stamp on "Over The Rainbow." Great! Listen also for "Prisoner of Love;" this charming ballad was always one of Perry's vest recordings ever and just one listen proves it! There's also "When You Were Sweet Sixteen;" this tune gets a regal treatment from Perry who again never misses a beat.

"'Till the End of Time" is another great early hit from Perry; I love how well he sings this--it's practically irresistible! Similarly, "As Time Goes By" has a wonderful interpretation by the great Perry Como; and this is wonderful for late night slow dancing with your sweetheart all alone in your living room. "My Funny Valentine" is another major highlight of this CD; Perry sings this with all his heart and soul--and he certainly makes this number shine brightly all these years later!

"For Me and My Gal" comes from the MGM movie of the same name; again Perry and his backup vocalists play with the tempo a bit to make this all their own. In addition, "It's the Talk of the Town" is a lovely melody that Perry makes so very special with his excellent delivery of this number. The CD also ends well with Perry Como performing "In the Still of the Night;" this tune is another classic that you're bound to love if you haven't heard it yet.

Perry Como fans will want this for their collections; and people everywhere who love classic romantic songs will appreciate this album for many years to come.
