CD Reviews

This is a great record
My Pen Name Is Steve | Pacifica, CA United States | 10/07/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was turned onto Penelope Houston by Richie Unterberger's Book, "Unkown Legends of Rock'n'Roll." Even though this record had not come out at the time of the book's publication, I would recommend this as a great first-listen. This record is loaded with good music - - great songs with great lyrics. This is the one that I'll be giving to people as a gift this year - - anyone who appreciates good music will enjoy this record."
Terrific album from a One-of-a-kind Performer

"I've been a fan of Penelope Houston since her days in the Avengers. I have pretty much all of her stuff, Avengers and solo, and this ranks up with the best of it. The melodies are strong, the arrangements are rocking with more than a hint of a 60s feel, and her vocals are better than ever. This is fast becoming my favorite of hers, along with "The Whole World." I especially love "Flight 609," "Take My Hand," "Hole," and the title track."
Great Songs and Cool Concept from Penelope

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Folk-rock chanteuse Penelope Houston's new one is a bit like a soundtrack for a romantic 60s French movie. Using chimy guitars, warm garagy fuzz organ, and stripped down percussion, Penelope paints a picture that is appealing to power poppers and garage aficianados, as well as indie pop fans. Great songs as well as evocative atmosphere make this one a must-have!"
