CD Reviews

Sincerity

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album showcases three of the most original voices in jazz today. The communication, intuition, and sheer musicality make this album a must. It's refreshing to hear in a world where the most well-known jazz musicians have started to become over-concerend and perhaps obsessed with what came before them. This album presents a much needed step forward in the evolution of this music."
One Of Many Great Albums by the Paul Motian Trio

"Paul Motian Trio consists of Joe Lovano on tenor saxophone, Bill Frisell on guitar and guitar synthesizer, and Paul Motian on drums, percussion. This group has been playing together pretty steadily for the past 25 years. It is the longest any of them have played with anyone.

"It Should've Happened A Long Time Ago" is probably not the best place to start exploring this group, but for those already familiar with what they do, then this would be a great album to have. The price of this album has risen tremendously since I bought it. I think I bought this album for 17 or 18 dollars, but this album has gotten hard to find. I'm lucky I bought it when I did.

I will also say that this album has one of Frisell's best recorded solos on it. The song "India" is a sonic marvel and is worth the price of the whole album, but this tune is also featured on Bill Frisell's Rarum collection also on ECM. You could probably find that cd alot cheaper, but for the collector, this one is definitely worth owning. I own almost everything Frisell has done with Motian with the exception of three cds under the Soul Note Records label, which is a foreign label (Italian I think).

Pick this album up if you can get it for a good price."
