CD Reviews

It's Raining Men!, and a whole lot more.....................

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Quick Disco trivia. Paul Jabara, composer of great late 70's Pop and Disco songs (most notably, Last Dance) came up with a great, campy, post-Disco song called It's Raining Men, he then pitched to his singer friends; Barbra, Diana, and Donna and they all turned the song down. What to do?, being Paul, he took the Disco group (and back up singers for Sylvester) Two Tons of Fun, and reinvented them as The Weather Girls. The song in turn became an instant club classic, and featured a very early and primitive video to support the song. Most notable is that all this happended after Disco was supposedly dead and buried.

The Weather Girls would go onto to score a number of other club hits, and yes they kept their new name

(see my review of The Weather Girls, Super Hits).

BUT, there is more to this CD, The Weather Girls are all featured on the tracks Ladies Hot Line, and Hope. A rising talent at that time (1982) Leata Galloway is featured on Hurricane Joe, and Whats Become of Love, and an unkown talent at that time, Whitney Houston, is featured on Eternal Love. Eternal Love is a great power ballad that showed what Whitney could deliver and featured such icons as Patti Austin and Denice Williams on backup vocals.

We lost Paul far too soon in 1992, but his music will always live on.
