"Recorded with a mid-concert hall perspective, these clean and refined accounts of two of Richard Strauss' greatest scores may not be sonic blockbusters (if that's what you're looking for in "Zarathustra"), they are still finely detailed with plenty of muscle when needed. Haenchen and his very able orchestra deliver clear, honest performances bringing out many details often missed in more overt recordings. "Metamorphosen" is not as searching as Karajan's acclaimed account, though Haenchen delivers all the goods.

At the low price this is an bargain, whether for someone just discovering these works or the intrepid collector looking to add additional versions to his library. Recommended!"
