CD Reviews

Southern Gospel Classics at their best.
11/24/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Southern Gospel Music Assoc. has voted the Palmetto State Quartet one of the five best quartets for the past two years. It's easy to see why. They are a class act, all the way. This album is filled with their version of classic Southern gospel songs from the 50's. They deserve credit for finding great songs that haven't been done to death by other groups. Lead singer Kerry Beatty has the perfect voice for this kind of music. I've never heard him sound better. They sing these songs with a great deal of spirit and energy. This is a much better album than any of the other albums of classic songs put out by other gospel quartets. This is the one CD I would take if I was going to be stranded on a desert island."
Back to the 50's

"There has been a wave of 50's albums in the southern gospel world. In my opinion, Palmetto State Quartet has captured the true sound and feel of the 50's in this project. The perfectly tight harmony of this group is amazing. These guys blend together to form a sound that would be pleasing to anyone's ear. The wonder of this group doesn't stop there; each member has a strong solo part on at least one track on this project. Kerry Beatty is at his best in this project. Jeff Pearles demonstrates the vast capabilities of his smooth DEEP bass voice, that can't be rivaled by any bass in southern gospel music today. Tony Peace is a class act exemplifying perfection as always and Brion Carter's voice is brilliantly radiant on every note on this project. This project is my favorite in my southern gospel collection!!!"
Upbeat, Inspiring, Thrilling!

"The song lyrics and upbeat melodies combine to focus your thoughts on "good things" like Heaven and God's provisions in this life. The CD starts with a powerful rendition of "Moving Up To Heaven" and moves on into the second song with a continuation of that theme with "Our Debts Will Be Paid." Another song about Heaven on the CD, "Roll On Jordan" is classic Southern Gospel at its best. Nobody does it better!

Another highlight is "I Believe in the Old Time Way," which sort of reminds me of a 1920s type setting with its "omm pahs" and human instrumentation (i.e., human voices used as a brass band). Palmetto State is carrying on the Southern Gospel legacy with style in a first class way. I give this CD my highest rating with no hesitation."
