Best Duo in Christian Rock
08/25/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Dentes (the husband and wife team who make up OUT OF THE GREY) are a perfect blending of talent. Christine's gorgeously expressive voice, with that edge of vulnerability in it's pure beauty, combines with her husband's fine guitar work. Add that to catchy song-writing and thoughtful lyrics, and y ou have one heavenly sound. Highly Recommended! Their latest work (SEE INSIDE) is splendid. "Winter Sun" is haunting, minimalistic. "My God You are" is intense and pleading. "Not a Chance" is bouncy and great to sing along to. There isn't a dud song on the cd. If you love good music (whether you are a believer in Christ or not), try OUT OF THE GREY."
A dynamic, insightful album

"With "See Inside," Scott and Christine Dente's fifth album, they demonstate their ability to match the newest musical trends. Their musical style has always been pop, but that generic term changes with the wind. The instrumentation in "See Inside" is more raw, and seems to serve more purposes than simply accompanying Christine's vocals. Christine is the primary vocalist and lyricist. In addition to her trademark breathy vocals, Christine has been recognized for her fresh, intelligent, and penetrating lyrics. Previously, these lyrics have reflected this couple's newness to the Christian faith, who began their band soon after they graduated from their college years, during which Christine shared her faith with Scott, he accepted it, and they married. A primary theme flowing through their first four albums is the challenge faced by Christians to share their faith with others through words ("Wishes," "Dear Marianne," "Weight o! ! f the Words," and "When Love Comes to Life") and actions ("Door of Heaven," "All We Need," "Unfolding," "Love Like Breathing," and "Pretending"). In contrast, the primary theme in "See Inside" delves beneath the Christian's skin to evaluate the relationship with God made possible through faith in Christ, and they approach this theme honestly. "No Leaving" and "Prove It" discuss the struggle of Christians to keep their walk in step with their talk. In "Come Clean," Christine sings about the relief salvation brings when we no longer have to try to cover up our sins: "So you cover me with Jesus, and You see me just like He is, and I'm confident to tremble in your presence once again." The songs "Constant" and "My God You Are" talk about the Christian's confidence and security in God, even during trying circumstances. Fittingly, the album closes ! ! with Christine, accompanied by a piano, addressing "Jo! y," a metaphorical figure who, depending on our perspective, can be either very close or very far. This conclusion challenges Christians to find the joy in their circumstances that is possible through their relationship with God through Christ. I look forward to hearing what they have to say next."
