A Performance Not Found Wanting One Iota

"A very idiomatic performance of this popular and oft-recorded warhorse. The male soloists sing with the licentious snarl and bite that the text calls for, the female soloists exhibit the necessary lustful yearning, and Wand appropriately varies the orchestral and choral dynamics from the softest pianissimo to the most blustery fortissimo with aplomb. The recording is brilliantly vivid. Overall, a fine runner-up in this style to Jochum on Deutsche Grammophon (Carl Orff: Carmina Burana), though Ozawa and the Boston Symphony on RCA (Orff: Carmina Burana) make a fine, more chaste and romantically rendered complement."
