This big band score is not unusual for Nelson: a lot of big driven movements which boast his cinmatic style: if Nelson was not scoring a movie, he was a movie for the mind.
This is not as blusey as his work on his other Impulse albums, or on his arrrangements for Jimmy Smith and Shriley Scott. This tribute has a more classical feel. One complaint: my reissue has no booklet, and the LP liner notes are copied and printed in reduced-xeorx type on the CD gatefold. Are we supposed to be able to read this? Are they KIDDING?" |
