Norbert Kraft is an extremely adept guitarist. Occasionally in this recital, he is even too fluent for his own good, as when his fingers seem to be running away from him in Albeniz's Torre bermeja (The Red Tower). But most of the time, he uses those fingers to extremely good effect, playing these mostly-familiar pieces with a great deal of energy and color. Of course there are several similar recordings available. But Kraft's disc has the advantage of particularly fine sound quality, very lifelike but relatively free of the extraneous noises so common to guitar recordings. And the program is nicely arranged for consecutive listening. --Leslie Gerber
