CD Reviews

A Goddess in Disguise
Christian Paaske | Stavanger Norway | 02/26/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In the genre of western chanting of Indian sanskrit mantra this is a production that stands out, not only with it's contact with ancient traditions, but also with it's joy, devotion and overflow of energy and vitality. Nina Hagen gives voice to both classical Indian chants, but also contributes with some beat up original westernised versions of old traditional mantras which is just great ! Nina Hagen have good help of other mantra singers and the whole band has a powerful impact. For mantra lovers this recording is a treat. The extra live recording on the second CD is just as juicy, inspiring and raw as the studio recording, both brilliant and excellent. The gods does not always come in sandals and white gowns, sometimes they dress up as punk divas, but here Nina Hagen is maybe showing us who she really is - a goddess in disguise?"
Full circle
Franz | Athens, GA | 06/09/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Nina comes full circle with a combination of her power-diva attire and Vedic chanting, a driving force in her life, which (so far) only sporadically surfaced in her previous work. Delivery from the heart, beautiful voice and instrumentation. Disc one is Nina & party playing a sparkling set in the studio, disc two contains a spirited live concert that feels like a day in the park. The icing on the cake is a short but satisfying film with footage of the concert. Expect to experience Krishna full-on, fantastic release!"
Welcome Addition For Nina Collecters
David Oliver | Encinitas, CA United States | 11/11/2003

"Traditional Hindu devotionals are an acquired taste, and are definitely not what one would throw on the home stereo to satisfy our desire for a taste of Nina Hagen as we mostly know her.
Yet throughout her extensive career one would have to be shortsighted to be unaware of the colorful myriad of spiritualy charged references and musical styles which have formed and changed and mutated since.
This collection of Indian Mantras and Bhajans is a well rounded and nicely packaged full view presentation of Ninas personal Spiritual journey thus far,and not only preserves the integrity of this particular musical structure, but sheds all the usual "Nina Hagen Punk Rock Diva" isms to give us yet another view of this Incredible and multi faceted Artist.
Though I must say this particular project has seen the least amount of playtime
in my daily life,it is a welcome addition to any true fans collection."
