CD Reviews

Vivaldi like you've never heard it before
deonc | Fourways, South-Africa | 04/26/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I had this disc until it was stolen from me, and since then I have been frantically searching for a replacement (I stay in South-Africa, and there are no local agents). It is one of those albums that you can play to almost anyone, and if they have even the slightest appreciation for classical music, they will love it. It is probably on my list of 5 favourite albums of all time! It featured regularly in my listening line-up (which consists of a very wide range of music- from opera through jazz all the way to death metal), and each time I listened to it, it was very difficult to stop before I had listened to the whole CD! To call it superb would be to be damning it with feint praise.I cannot recommend this album to anyone highly enough! If you have heard Vivaldi and found it a bit boring, blame the performance, not the music. Give this disc a spin and change you opinion forever :-)"
Best recording of four seasons out there

"Although i've lost this two times (from friends that "borrowed" it), this recording is my favorite rendition of the four seasons. It has a clarity and drive that I haven't yet been able to find in other recordings. I am now trying to find it AGAIN to replace the other two copies I've lost over the past ten years.

Grab a copy before they become completely un-findable."
Strongly recommended

""Strongly Recommended" by Gramophone, highest recommendation in a book on building your classical library.

I am not a classical music expert and am just beginning to become an enthusiast of Baroque. But this disc sounds very good to me - keeps my attention like few classical cds did before the advent of my upgraded stereo system. Lovely.
