"This little known opera is a treasure trove of gorgeous, atmospheric music, here conducted and performed with ultimate perfection. Fedoseyev has made a few priceless opera recordings on the Relief label, including Rimsky's Snegurochka and Tchaikovsky's The Slippers.
The lead tenor in May Night, Konstantin Lisovsky, is wonderful, with a big, velvety and expressive voice. He can be heard in The Slippers, too, singing with the same ardent beauty. He is also on Mark Ermler's Boris Godunov, but singing the role of Shuiskiy, where he can't indulge his romantically delicious voice like he can in May Night and The Slippers. A great pity he hasn't made more recordings. At least we have him here.
All the voices in this recording of May Night are beautiful. This is a gem of a recording."
