CD Reviews

The fountain of youth has been found!
KEVIN C. DELAHANTY | Newburyport, MA United States | 04/11/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Yes, you can remain eternally young!

Yes, you can go home again!

Nektar has returned, and we are all thankful for the effort.

I must admit to some reluctance in writing reviews in forums such as this. It seems that they eventually devolve into another form of "chat room" for devotees who write glowing critiques of their favorite artist. So reader, beware! I may become just as guilty as those about whom I criticize.

I "found" Nektar when I was in college. I have all of their earlier albums on vinyl. I liked their style of rock & roll. At such a formative time in one's life music has tremendous import and remains with you forever. Certainly your tastes may evolve, but there will always be that "soft spot" in your heart and soul (transmitted to the tapping foot) for the music of your adolescence. So it is for me with Nektar. And now they have given me back my youth in the form of EVOLUTION. When I play this CD the experiences and vigor of those long-ago days return and I am no longer a man of 50+ years who hasn't had use of a comb for the past 10 years. We should all be fortunate to have moments like these, however they are brought about.

In brief, for fans of Nektar, you will not be disappointed. You have my word.

For the novice, this is one helluva rock-n-roll album!

Either way, get it and play it...LOUD! It's that kind of music."
Great music, intelligent lyrics, fine production...classic N

"Sounds like a bunch of us found this English "Kraut" band back in our college days of yore. What a spectacular treat to be swept away again by new music from this fine band a quarter of a century later!

On "Evolution", Nektar has truly rediscovered the magic of their unique progressive rock music. Some really tasty guitar licks/riffs on many songs - kind of belies the age of Mr. Albrighton (and his recent woes with liver disease). His voice sounds great too.

The album starts with "Camouflage to White", which is a good song, but probably my least favorite on the album. The rest of the album varies between acoustic and standard rock (hard, but not heavy) and progressive, with typically thoughtful lyrics and inspiring, original melodies. No weak songs, and really very exciting to listen to.

Highly recommended for prog rock fans, and certainly for fans of Nektar - they were a special "discovery" for us 30 years ago, and they can still unearth new gems for us to delight in today!

Great prog compositions, exceptionally well-played, with crystal clear production.

Sweet as....what's the word I'm looking for?...

I value interesting music that is played and recorded well. This cd's rating was based on:

Music quality = 8.9/10; Performance = 9/10; Production = 9/10; CD length = 10/10.

Overall score weighted on my proprietary scale = 9.0 ("4-1/2 stars")"
Great Album

"Anybody who reads these fan reviews must be a Nektar fan or you would not be looking for them here at Amazon.

Get this new Cd by them. There is no reason to wait. In my opinion it is one of the best albums on 2004.

There are three of the original four members playing on this album, the one missing is the great Mo Moore. A big loss indeed, but the new bass player is excellent. He even plays a Rickenbacker.

There is not anything close to a weak song on this album, not that I expected it but is blew my mind on just how strong from start to finish that "Evolution" really is.

The musicianship and lyrics are just top notch. One again we have a true "concept" album from this great band. Do your-self a favor and add this to your collection, you will not regret it."
