CD Reviews

Another amazing preformance from our dear Natalie

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This original recording, made in 1992 (and reissued), has Natalie on her best behavior. She sings very cleanly through long running lines, beautiful legato phrases, and staccati reaching to G. Her acting is wonderful-sometimes tremendous, sometimes subtle- with each character emminent and clear. I was happy to hear, within her light voice, a robust sound that I was afraid would drown in her sweet finesse. All in all I think this recording is very good.

I would like to note, though, that there is another recording of these arias made in 1998. In the 1998 recording--yes I bought them both--her voice is a little more mature and full than in this recording. (Or it may just be that the recording itself is a better one.) I noticed that the acting (sung exactly with the same characterizations), is a little more dramatic than in this recording. The embellishments are the same, and the repitoire is sung in the exact same order, and the performance is conducted by the same Guschlbauer... The 1998 recording is the better buy, in my opinion, but you will like this one if the other is too expensive... (Having this collection of rareties is essential to every Mozart lover and good for singers as well, so I would think the benefit would be worth the cost.) Whichever way you go, enjoy!"
