CD Reviews

Voice of an archangel
Leslie Hammer | Canada | 04/11/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I first heard Nando on the Narada label in 1995 with their "Earth Songs" album, in which he had written a song called "The Earth Tribe". I liked it so much I decided to invest in this dual CD he put out in 2000. Even though he has only 2 CDs under his belt (from 94 and 96!), you can find at least 10 more songs he has written on other Narada albums as a guest artist (O Come All Ye Faithful, Gloria, Por Ai, New Face, Good Question, Sonho Dream etc). His voice is very well-suited for this kind of music. Sort of an upbeat Bossa Nove genre type album is how I would classify it. Once you hear "After Dawn" you will be hooked! I remember him saying something about using Ginger for his voicework.

Nando is with Pat Metheny at the moment, and since he has not put out an full (original work) album since 96, I am doubting he will be in the studio for a solo project anytime soon. And that's a sad thing, because even though I love Metheny, even he can't really do Nando's talents justice. Nando should be in a class act all his own. Its just too bad that the suits at Narada care more about money than they do the magical creativity of a Portugeuse artist (did I spell that right?)

Best songs on the album set:

1.) After Dawn

2.) If I Fell (actually a Beatles song)

3.) Northeast Wind

4.) Episode - Prelude

5.) Saudade (Longing)

Clearly, Nando is a shining gemstone at the bottom of an immense lake. If you happen to have any friends from Spain, buy them a copy!

Please Nando..put out another album! Two albums (with sprinkled singles across Narada's season albums) is not enough! More?"
AMAZING!!!

"I love these CDs! If I could give them more than 5 stars I would! If you are a fan of Brazilian/Spanish music then you will love Nando Lauria's music. Trust me it is worth buying. All of the songs are great. I have been hooked on them for over a month now, playing them constantly. I even made a copy for my Mom and now she is hooked too. I also just saw him singing backup at a Pat Metheny Group concert here in Philly. Just amazing!!! I highly recommend these CDs."
