CD Reviews

A gem

"Yes, this is real Hungarian village music. but it is a LIVING

tradition, and Muzsikas has not shrunk from taking liberties with the arranging. They use almost entirely traditional instruments, but often in combinations and ways not part of the tradition. I think of this record no differently than say, Rubber Soul or Revolver. More importantly I think it is comparable to them. Most importantly, I have the complete lyrics in both Hungarian and English to this gorgeous record.

I'm offering this for free to anyone who asks. I figure anyone one who cares enough to ask, I want to help, since this info is simply not available. you can write me at landesm@aol.com

I also have complete lyrics, in both languages for

Dudoltam En(in U.S. this is called

MARTA SEBESTYEN Muzsikas

just ask, and you are welcome. I will send as email attachment"
Amazing

"I can't believe this has been here since 2001 & there's only 1 review.

Marta Sebestyen is one of the greatest singers the human race has produced, & this features her with the excellent musicians of Muzsikas (not to forget the lovely, gritty voice of Peter Eri). If you have never tried Hungarian folk music or these artists in particular before, you will not be disappointed. Really. You can track me down & email me if you are.

Sadly, there are no mp3 sample files for the tracks as of this viewing (9/30/08). There are a lot of strings, plucked strings, & amazing Hungarian bagpipes. Marta Sebestyen has this amazing, very clear, very beautiful voice. If Donovan (yes, the 60s rock guy) is the king of vibrato, Marta is the queen of clarity. The album has dramatic songs like Cold Winds Are Blowing and It Was Long Ago, soft songs like Love, Love (featured in the movie of The English Patient & probably the most famous Muzsikas song, although it's one of the few Marta/Muzsikas songs I don't really like), and Hungarian folk blues like the title track and I Am Only Wondering. This is a great addition to anyone's library, and if it turns you on to other East European music, that's only an added benefit."
