"Here comes another of my CME reviews... I have not been able to get a new box of the collection but have had a lot of time to listen to this box and thought I knew it enough to review it.



As with customary Philips you get top of the line pianists permorming the works. For the sonatas you have Mitsuko Uchida, who is best known for her Mozart and for the variations Ingrid Haebler. The bulk of the set is performed by these two pianists. This was the first time I have listened to Uchida and I was looking forward to it, havind read glourious reviews of her other Mozart records. Well, I have not been let down. Great musicianship, it is clear that she understands Mozart not just performs his Music.



The Variations are generally played by Haebler and Koopman and they both have done great jobs. The only thing that disturbs me is that the whole variations are delivered in one track. This has its own merits as well, for me at least. I'm prone to listen those works that I know best and do not listen to the other works as much as I should. This ensures I listen to the whole variations. :) Anyway, not so much of an inconvenience.



For the collectors of the CME, there is no need to tell anything, because the are already collecting it and will buy no matter what. For other buyers, I strongly recommend this set..."
