Delicious Odds and Ends from Mozart's Liturgical Music
B. Marold | Bethlehem, PA United States | 09/02/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"'Grabmusik K42' on this CD by Mozart is unusual among his liturgical pieces in that it is in German, written when he was a wee lad of 11. The piece is every bit as interesting to the listener as any of his most mature church works, and it also has that distinct feel to it that it is based on Italian operatic style. There are even passages which sound like they were lifted from 'The Magic Flute', but then, these appear throughout Mozart's church works. The later works, 'Regina Coeli K 127 and Ave Verum Corpus K618 are even more Italianate, and even more enjoyable to the listener, even if they are in Latin rather than the more familiar German. If you simply can't get enough Mozart with his more familiar Masses and Cantatas, then you simply must have this recording too. I did!"
