CD Reviews

WAIT JUST A MINUTE!
Erik Gullickson | 01/14/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"okay, here's the deal: morgana king is a mainstay of jazz vocal. She was the only challenger to the vocal acrobatics of "Yma Sumac" and, unlike that jersey devil, she chose material that was accessible to an audience and not merely a showpiece for her instrument. True, this set doesn't reflect her best work, but check out almost anything else...earlier is better. "Simply Eloquent" is sublime. Tasteful, and exemplary of a true musician's sense of voice as a jazz instrument, as part of an ensemble. Also "A taste of honey" (extremely hard to find) which shows off the amazing range and facility of this remarkable woman. She IS a jazz singer. period. Critics should research an artist's body of work before putting them down without history, truth or grammar to back it up."
Simply wonderful

"Morgana King has one of the most wonderful voices in the business. Few singers can match her sense of style, rythm and phrasing. Miss King's singing can turn any song into an unforgettable experience. It's a pity her recordings are so hard to find, and that she doesn't record more often."

"Late at night is my time for Morgana, what a sensitive and soulful sound, and always lush, rich orchestrations. This album is no exception, my first was "Gemini changes" and one of my favourites is still "A taste of honey" which I was fortunate to get on CD recently. Buy this album, buy all her albums if you are a hopeless romantic and music still makes you feel. There are so few singers left that give you as much as Morgana does, what a lady.
