CD ReviewsSax and Brass 09/17/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "This cd features Dr. Michael Jacobson from Baylor University together with some of his colleagues playing some pieces for saxophone that are probably seldom heard and even more seldomly recorded. The first four pieces by William Hartley (Concertino de Camera,) M. WIlliam Karlins (Catena II,) Fisher Tull (COncerto de Camera) and BIll Holcombe (Blues Concerto) all feature soprano or alto saxophone and brass quintet. Frederick Fox's "S.A.X." is for Solo Alto saXophone and sax quartet, and the final "Concertato" by Richard Willis is for alto and WInd Ensemble.One of Jacobson's cd's was nominated for a grammy--and he is a truly exceptional saxophone soloist, and this cd helps to project the fact that there are more pieces for saxophone than those with piano or orchestra. The pieces are all enjoyable, and Jacobson's brass colleagues at Baylor are all equally talented on their respective instruments. Definitely worth buying for either a brass or classical saxophone enthusiast."
