High Energy Dance At Its Best!
05/09/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Miquel Brown, along with Evelyn Thomas (both from the same British 80's label, Record Shack Records and revered producers Ian Levine and Fiachra Trench) are synonymous with quality Boystown style High Energy dance music from the eighties. The seminal 'So Many Men' So Little Time' (released in 1983 before the widespread recognition of AIDS), seemed to suggest the lifestyle that every gay man was leading (or wanted to lead!), its infectious rhythm and Miquel's soaringly strong vocals made this track a massive dance hit, espectially in the gay and latin clubs. This was followed by 'He's A Saint, He's A Sinner', which also shows off Miquel's vocals to the max. 'Close To Perfection' was another successful track, not so high-energised, more of a lilting soulful song invoking swaying palm trees and love in the sun! Very much of it's time, but nevertheless does not sound dated. Highly recommended."
Miquel Brown--Detroit Dream Girl

"I heard Miquel Brown's beautiful dance track "Close to Perfection" at a ballroom dance party at Dance New York. I was literally swinging in my seat listening to this music. It actually made me break out into a big smile and become very happy. "The Best of Miquel Brown" is worth it just for that one song, but you get much more; "Footprints in the Sand", "So Little Time", "Blind Date", and "Beeline", as well as 9 others. Sometimes an artist kind of disappears into oblivion, but I was lucky enough to find out about Miquel Brown. These things happen purely by accident, but I will guard this CD now as a valuable part of my collection. There's a really pretty picture of Miquel on the CD cover. I wonder what she's doing these days?"
A talented lady "and the mother of Sinitta"

"Along with Evelyn Thomas this lady was responsible for what has become a collecting obsession with me. Produced by the enormously gifted Ian Levine Miquel also had an album produced for her by Pip Williams which is also worth checking out. Two of the songs featured on this album went on to redefine the term "High Energy" music and also introduced a "new" kind of sound for Gay audiences the world over. Ian has always had a knack for imbuing his productions with a "catchy sixties groove" that I now know has come from his days spent as a top DJ on the Northern Soul scene. Even with his High Energy productions this "vibe" flows strongly as in the fabulously uplifting track "Sunny Day". Miquel, of course, was always destined to be a "star" as her distinctive vocal talent shows, but did you know that she is also responsible for bringing another of my favourite "stars" into the world ? This being "Sinitta"!!!! Wherever the lady is in the world she can be assured that her recorded talent will live on for generations to come. BUY THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!!"
