Very nice

"This collection of ballads are from 1961-63, mostly played with the Gil Evans Orchestra in 1962 (tracks 1,3, and 5 being the exceptions..tracks 1 &3 are from the "Seven Steps to Heaven", and track 5 a live perfromance with Miles/Hank Mobley/Wynton Kelly/Paul Chambers/Jimmy Cobb on 21 April 1961 from The "Friday Night Live at the Blackhawk" disc)These tracks are a wonderful look at Miles' sometimes underrated (why I do not know) ballad and lyrical side. His use of harmon mutes was common during this period, and it heightens the sensitivity of his playing. Gil Evans always was able to coax a good performance from Miles, and these tracks are no different, its sense of lyracism rarely topped.A great collection for those wanting a small taste of the many sides of the Man With the Horn."
