A Near-Perfect Nez Primer

"Although the track order is a bit odd, this compilation presents the best tracks from four of Nesmith's five RCA albums. "Tantamount to Treason Vol. 1" is represented by "She thinks I still care," one of the album's weakest tracks and, oddly, "Smoke Smoke Smoke," a track only available on the twofer pairing "Tantamount..." with "Nevada Fighter." The atmospheric, somber "In the Afternoon" would have been a much better choice. As for "Nevada Fighter," while his cover of Nilsson's "Rainmaker" is brilliant, Nez' title track is a blistering, raucus bit of genius and is sadly missed here."
