Synopsis

Album Description
It is difficult to effectively qualify the many talents of Michael Andrews. Simply stated, Mike is a music maker. He is equally comfortable in the role of "Composer," "Producer," "Multi-Instrumentalist," "Singer" and/or "Songwriter." He is a founding member of The Greyboy Allstars. He has produced and recorded albums by Gary Jules, Inara George and Metric. He has written and performed the original score music for Miranda July's Me and You and Everyone We Know as well as the cult phenomenon Donnie Darko that included the celebrated cover of Tears for Fears' "Mad World" that was the UK's Christmas No. 1 in 2003. Hand On String is Mike's very first solo album. Nine personal and honest songs plus three instrumentals with art by master graphic designer Geoff Mcfettridge.

CD Reviews

Michael Andrews in a intimate setting of smart Folky/pop
Chris David Stillwell | 02/27/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Known as a musician, producer from Glendale, Michael Andrews crafts a program of nice songs with mature melodic & lyrical depth. He basically wrote and played everything you hear on this disc with the help of engineer Brian Cook. Los Angeles friends Inara George & Greg Kurstin provide some nice touches to a few tracks. What you get from this disc is a guy who knows what to play to serve the song to the upmost. He serves as his own session player on a wide variety of instruments and textures. It's a hard thing to pull off without sounding like it's all coming from one person. Todd Rundgren, Stevie Wonder, and Prince did it. I can only attribute Mike's success in accomplishing this task is his wide appreciation and ability to create and assimilate music from most all genres and periods. His sometimes weary smoke-drenched voice weaves in and out of his arrangments like someone who has seen & experienced life. Buy it, play it, and enjoy."
