Her Shining Hour
Bruce | Millwood, NY USA | 10/22/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a breakthrough CD for this marvelous performer. Terrific choice of music, great backup musicians with superb, inspired guests Kenny Barron and Stefan Harris, along with original material that is quite beautiful and meaningful. Melissa's and Nina D'Alessandro's lyrics to Mr. Barron's "Twilight Song", as he said himself, "Bring a tear to a glass eye."
Ms. Walker's first two CD's are also wonderful, but here she hits her stride in gorgeous, lush Leonard Bernstein music and an uptempo rendition of "Old Fashioned Walk." The CD communicates much more closely what her live performances are like (go hear her and enjoy) and her intelligence and musicianship come through most clearly.
Clarence Penn, besides doing some lynchpin drumming in a Philly Joe Jones restraint, helps the overall production through his music directorship and arranging.
Get the CD, enjoy it, and tell your friends."
Great cd!
