Synopsis

Product Description
The Megaphonic Thrift is a Norwegian indie-supergroup of sorts consisting of Richard Myklebust of Stereo21 and Young Dreams, Linn Frøkedal and Njål Clementsen of Low Frequency In Stereo and Fredrik Vogsborg of Casiokids and Young Dreams. They make catchy melodies and then drench them in guitarnoise, best described as noisepop with shoegaze elements. Their premier influences are acts like Sonic Youth, Built To Spill, Dinosaur Jr., Guided By Voices and My Bloody Valentine. The band broke onto the international scene with their debut EP ''A Thousand Years Of Construction'' early in 2010. They toured relentlessly both in Europe and North America throughout the year, together with bands such as A Place To Bury Strangers and The Depreciation Guild. Hailed as a sensational live act, they won over crowds at the EuroSonic, Popkomm, The Great Escape, Berlin Festival, ILMC, Reeperbahn and Øya festivals among others. As RCRDLBL put it: ''I stood near the front with a huge smile, the wash of music making me feel like my face was being blown back. It was definitely the loudest and one of the most exciting things I d seen.'' 2011 saw the release of their debut album Decay Decoy on ClubAC30 in Europe and Sonic Unyon in North America to rave reviews. Their profile has been upped as Band Of Horses and Dinosaur Jr. have handpicked them for support shows, and Jay-Z featured them in his magazine ''Life and Times''. Now The Megaphonic Thrift return with their second, eponymous album. Entering their rehearsal space in Bergen with only a handful of riffs and a desire to experiment, the tracks that make up the album came about through a process of all members writing towards a unified record, disregarding any template and looking to move on from the marker set down by Decay Decoy. The result is an album that pushes at the edges of their previous noise assault at times but also reveals a softer and more delicate side to their songwriting. Or, as bass player Linn Frokedal puts it: ''It is spontaneous and schizophrenic because of how we wrote the songs. There were no rules so the diversity of the songs came naturally. It is lighter but also darker at times than 'Decay Decoy'. In a way it is like a mirror for what has inspired us since that album was recorded.'' With a well-deserved reputation for must see live shows, or as The Fly UK would have it ''ruthless gigantism'', The Megaphonic Thrift will do European shows around the album release, with North American tour dates to follow later on. More on those soon. In the meantime, please enjoy.
