"This album has emotion and intelligence! Meg's songs are about real life, not fairytale love ballads. And they sound like they're written by a woman who is finding her way through the typical joys and trials of contemporary life. She has a clear voice with a yearning quality to it and creates beautiful effects by holding notes "too long" and creating lovely dissonances. The songs are interesting musically as well; not just a steady beat with a pop tune, but melodies that weave and surprise. The band arrangements are smart and at times exhilarating with unusual rhythm and chord changes, but always in support of the lyric and Meg's vocal line. There are some great instrumental solos and flourishes with extraordinary colors coming from the instruments. I don't know if teens would relate to these songs--they are for the rest of us."
