Paul Gonsalves meets Earl Hines is one of my 3 or 4 favorite Jazz album, simply because I can't play any other number than the first one when I listen to it. These other tracks could not possibly be inferior in the hands of these 2 titans (Over the Rainbow has a magical feeling attached to it too), but the hard swinging "It Don't Mean a Thing.." cannot be beaten. I won't tell you about the interplay, the relaxed but productive atmosphere of this mind-blowing session. Ellingtonians, small combo adepts, rejoice and hunt the ex-black lions unvaluable lps, and once you get them on cd play them loud !"
