Walking Down That Road Of Love. . .Alone:A Look Into Bitter
Charles Hunter | Bowie Maryland | 12/11/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What can I say, sister Meshell Ndegeocello has done it again. From the very begining all the way into the end Bitter will take you on an emotional smoothed out ride, beyond love, romance, heartache, denial, and lust. For those who think they know themselves, Bitter will have you questioning your man/woman hood from top to bottom. It reaches into the reccesses of your mind and ask you the question. . .Why Me? Either way you go Bitter is the culmination of blood, sweat and tears. . .all produced under a heavy hearted Meshell Ndegeocello. Mad Love to her for this soul searching album."
Album vs. singles

"Singles are great. An album comprised of good singles is even better. But an artist who creates an experience and then puts it to plastic is rare. These eerie, sometimes mournful, tunes flow one to the next, imprinting an artist's very personal message on one's own soul. Classical composers wrote music like this; most modern musicians don't really get it. It's not just about a 3-and-a-half minute song. Anyway, enough of the pontificating. It's a great album with many beautiful, incredibly lush and satisfying tracks. Enjoy!"

"Not too many artists make the album they want to make...as many see Meshell as a strong woman, she reveals to the world that she too has vulnerability. This album shows a lot of growth and as much as I liked Meshell before, I respect her that much more after "Bitter.""
