Synopsis

Album Description
Mauro Giuliani (1781-1828) was the great guitar virtuoso of his age. Friend of both Beethoven and Rossini, he wrote hundreds of pieces for the guitar, plus concertos, chamber music, and songs. His complete works have been published in 39 volumes by Tecla Editions of London. The present interpretations are based on the original texts as preserved in these scholarly editions, and Aldo Vianello plays an instrument of Giuliani?s time which is lighter and more flexible than the modern guitar. Soprano Cristina Curti, a graduate of the conservatories of Bologna and Parma, is a specialist in vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque, and vocal chamber music of all periods. She has made several previous recordings. Guitarist Aldo Vianello studied at the Milan and Bologna conservatories and is a scholar in historic guitar performance. He also plays several other instruments, including the mandolin. He has made a project of performing the complete guitar works of Giuliani.
