Synopsis

Album Description
The fresh young Matangi Quartet from Holland have played together since 1999, going so far as to all live in the same building along with a rehearsal studio! They even share one car among themselves. Since they concentrate exclusively on playing together as a quartet, their sound and intonation have become polished to a degree of perfection. In 2002, they received the Almere Chamber Music Award and the Anton Kersjes Award. They continue to work closely with the Amadeus Quartet, the legendary quartet who has served as one of their mentors. Première was their debut album. They have also released the best-selling single Bats from Hell, which the magazine Klassieke Zaken called "a contagious bridge between classic and pop." Their name comes from Matangi, an Indian goddess with four arms who seduces people with the overtones of her lute. On Première they play three characteristic and highly popular quartets from the standard literature by Haydn, Schubert, and Dvorák.
