CD Reviews

Latin fusion, old skool marvels and deep deep grooves....

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Buy this CD if you love good music. Buy this CD if, like me, you're interested in the inspirations that make two of the world's best DJ's produce classic tune after classic tune.Disc one begins with a wonderful samba rhythm and gorgeous vocal from Karen Ramirez that sets the scene (but not the pace) for things to come. The Latin flavour weaves its way through many of the tracks (on both discs) but never far away you can instantly see in all the trakcs what makes MAW tick. Tracks 4 and 5 of disc 1 drop the groove with deep, expansive house numbers that just get better and better. Track 5 for me, is the cream of disc 1 - Blaze take an innocuous old school acid house groove and transforms it into a thing of subtle, funky beauty that DEMANDS to be played again and again - the louder the better. Having the mighty Taana Gardner is a sure fire hit - her sultry voice coupled with funky 70s disco, sounds as fresh as ever and stands as a tribute to the Mighty Larry Levan. Disc 2 (Kenny's Contribution) is more overtly latin in feel, but none the interesting for this, with some excellent tunes. Its good to see that the likes of Nina Simone and Jill Scott featuring on a `dance' album.Put together, this double CD makes compulsive listening and I recommend it to anyone who loves good music, chosen by excellent DJs compiled lovingly as only they know how.Enjoy."
