Another Compilation From Mary Wells

"Once again Motown rehashes the hits. The best thing about this compilation is that almost all the tracks are in true stereo. I Don't Want To Take A Chance is in mono(I don't think there is a stereo version).This disc also includes her two-sided hit with Marvin Gaye in stereo which also makes this a worthwhile purchase along with the beautiful Whisper You Love Me, Boy.They should've included the mono version of Bye Bye Baby as the stereo version here is horrible and was originally issued on Mary Wells Greatest Hits-MSLP616 in 1964. I would've dropped the track Operator in favor of her version of When I'm Gone. Brenda Holloway did a great version also but this is truly Mary's song. If You can't purchase Command Compact Performance 22 original hits then this is the disc to get. Motown still has at least 11 unreleased tracks by her in the vault. How about combining those with the previously unreleased tracks from Looking Back 1961-1964 with Mary Wells Recorded Live On Stage and call it From The Vaults Live And Unreleased. Just a suggestion Motown."

"If you are a newbie looking for a definitive 60's Motown sound, this is a must for your collection. The Beyonces and Lil' Kims have their place in modern music. However, they lack the soul, depth and experience of a Mary Wells and Etta James. Enjoy."
