"I heard this guy's trio rendition of All the Things you are on the local Orlando public radio jazz station. I was BLOWN AWAY! I wrote his name down in the car so I wouldn't forget it... All the influences were there, but it was totally unique, inventive, crisp, bright. Shall I go on? Buy it immediately! (there should be a special 6 Star rating for stuff this good)."

"Finally, a smart pianist. Someone who touches the entirety of the soul--that is, both mind and heart. This guy's intellectual without ever (ever!) being dull. You hear chops, creativity, and history: he knows the masters, but doesn't just copy. He creates and demonstrates his creativity by both celebrating form and freedom. That is, at the same time you can enjoy the structure of composition (Butch is an expert at Big Band writing) while still feeling that it is all spontaneous and "just happening." Thank goodness Nordal is putting out some CDs (should have started a long time ago). I notice that on Amazon his new CD, Ways of the Hand isn't listed. Hopefully soon. Find it if you can. If you are a sophisticated jazz lover you will love this quiet giant."

A new jazz genius

"Who says there is nothing new in jazz piano?This 1st CD has intense, high energy, and intellect too. It made some "Ten Best" lists last year...it changes from modern to boogie to stride piano. He is the first authentic jazz piano genius to appear in the 30 years since Keith Jarrett made the scene. It has familiar tunes like "Billy Boy", "Over the Rainbow" and "Up a Lazy River". Also NOBODY in the world has faster hands! It is an intellectual and athletic romp! Highly reccomended!"
